There's even room for a burgeoning romance between Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk. Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye gets an expanded back-story that seeks to further humanize him. Ah, that's what was missing from the last Avengers movie, existentialist mumbo jumbo. In fact much of the tale, in between conventional combat, is centered on Avengers who just wanna go home and walk away from all this. There's several dream sequences that put division amongst the Avengers. She disorients them with visions of their fears. Her power is to get inside people's heads. Assisting them in this is Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). A big part of the narrative involves the gang coming to terms with their feelings.
On par with its predecessor, Joss Whedon proves that he's more then capable of handling this franchise's biggest film, even if he's far from perfect at it. It earns a place of high ranking in the Marvel Universe. Watching Mad Max: Fury Road is a sometimes daffy, occasionally baffling, surprisingly touching and even romantic adventure with one kinetic thrill after another. The film lacks the granular realism of the earlier installments, but Miller renders that unnecessary by magnifying the weirdness and insanity that always lurked beneath the series' surface.If you strap yourself in and let yourself just go along for the ride, you might just get your mind blown.
